Spain’s weather agency issued heatwave warnings on Tuesday for 26 provinces across Spain as temperatures soared for what is expected to be the last time this August.

The mercury was expected to tip into the high thirties across much of Spain reaching a soaring 40 C in parts of Andalusia but after reaching a peak mid-week the nation was set to cool towards the weekend.

High winds means there is a particular risk of forest fires in much of Spain.
