A mother has been arrested in Córdoba, southern Spain, after attempting to sell her daughter to a 70-year-old man for €10,000.
Officers from Spain’s National Police arrested the woman, along with another man, for trying to arrange a marriage between her teen daughter – who is a minor – and a 70-year-old man.
The girl refused to go through with the marriage and escaped from her home.
The investigation started in June when police specializing in human trafficking were informed of the disappearance of a girl in Córdoba.
When investigating the girl’s disappearance, police learnt that the girl had fled after refusing to go through with the arranged marriage.
Her mother and the man who was negotiating the terms of the sale were arrested.
