Police in Aracena, a town in the Huelva district of southern Spain, were called after reports that a child had been left for hours in a locked car.
According to a statement from the town hall, the little girl had been left sleeping in the parked car at around 11pm last Saturday night.
Hours later, at 3am a neighbour called police to report that they had found the young girl unaccompanied and visibly distressed.
“She was very scared, crying and asking for her Dad,” said the statement from the town hall.
Police finally located the child’s father at around 4.30 am “in a state of inebriation”. It is understood that he had visited several bars since leaving the girl and had been drinking “copas” – spirits.
