“Roma inclusion is one of the longstanding challenges that the European Union faces in order to build true cohesive and pluralist democratic societies. Structural socio-cultural and indirect legal barriers make the lives of millions of European Roma more difficult and harder, even within the Oresund region. In the Europe of today, their quest for substantial equality in rights and opportunities, and respect for their culture and traditions, still seems far off,” says Alejandro Fuentes, Senior Researcher at the Raoul Wallenberg Institute and moderator of the discussion.
To understand the social, cultural and legal complexities of this phenomena, scholars from different disciplines, namely, anthropology, sociology and law, will critically deconstruct and analyse it from a human rights based perspective.
The discussion takes place two days before International Roma Day on April 8.
