Spain's National Police reported on Thursday that they had arrested two women in the tourist hot-spot of Marbella for targeting elderly men and then stealing from them.

The women reportedly honed in on rich, elderly male tourists together, often meeting them at a bar, and then showing an interest in sleeping with them, according to newspaper Diario Sur.

The women reportedly slipped drugs into the men's drinks and when it took effect, they would guide the men to cash machines in order to find out their pin numbers. Using the men's stolen cards, they then made charges totaling at least €50,000 from eight different men.

Two British men, one American, one Norwegian and one Swede all reported being victims of the women's plot.

Diario Sur obtained security camera footage from police of the alleged detainees, showing a blonde and a brunette woman walking with arms around grey-haired men. In part of the video, one man appears to have trouble walking up some stairs.

The police investigation began last month when a man reported to officers that he had met two women and brought them home to his apartment, where they stole his credit cards. Within ten minutes, they made 14 charges amounting to €4,800.

Police received seven more similar reports in the days that followed with the same scenario.

The women had apparently met the men at the same bar in Puerto Banús, the upmarket marina alongside the coast from Marbella, leading investigators to discover that the women had apparently colluded with staff there.

Investigators also arrested the owner and an employee of the bar for reportedly providing the women with portable point of sale (POS) devices – with which they could charge credit cards themselves – in exchange for a percentage of what the pair stole.

Police found one of these POS devices in the purse of one of the arrested women.

In a similar case in Catalonia last month, police there arrested a woman who also targeted and drugged elderly men who she met on the street before stealing items from their homes.
