Catalonia’s police force, Los Mossos d’Esquadra, have reported a taxi driver for not stopping to help a motorbike rider involved in an accident in the city.

A video of the incident, which took place on February 16th on the C-31 in the Hospitalet de Llobregat area of the city, shows the man fall off his motorbike and lying motionless in the middle of the road.

A taxi then slows down and swerves to avoid the unconscious man, before driving on without stopping.

The accident took place at around 4pm and the taxi driver, a 47-year-old Spaniard from Barcelona who was carrying passengers at the time, failed to stop despite being the first vehicle on the scene.

He has been fined €100 for leaving the scene of the accident without offering help and assistance to the injured man.

Barcelona police were able to identify the driver thanks to CCTV in the area.

To avoid similar situations, Catalan police reminded the public that, in the case of an accident, drivers should follow the acronym PAS – proteger, alertar and socorrer – or protect, alert and assist in English.
