The Paris logo was revealed by Mayor Anne Hidalgo at the Arc de Triomphe on Tuesday, but it didn’t take long before questions were being raised.
The Paris logo, which sees a 2 and a 4 molded into one into the shape of the Eiffel Tower, is almost exactly the same as the logo of 4 Global Consulting (once it’s been rotated slightly).
The creative director at French company Dragon Rouge, which designed the Paris logo, said he was “very surprised” to see the connection.
“You’re freaking me out,” the designer, Kheireddine Sidhoum, told the French version of GQ magazine.
He added that there was no consultation or partnership with the British company over the logo, nor “any willingness to copy it”, but that there had been a “legal check”.
Paris faces competition from Budapest, Hamburg, Los Angeles and Rome to host the 2024 summer games, with a decision to be made on September 13th, 2017 in Lima.
Paris, which lost out to London for the 2012 Olympics, has staged the sporting spectacular twice before: in 1900 and 1924.
