According to witnesses, the man was sitting on railings at the top of the stairs when he fell.
“We will try to create a picture of what happened,” police spokesman, Henrik Sterner told Swedish regional newspaper, Göteborg-Posten.
”But there are no criminal investigations at present.”
The man was taken by ambulance to hospital but died of his injuries.
One witness told the Aftonbladet newspaper that the man and his friends had been fooling around just before he fell.
“Suddenly he lost grip on the railing and fell. We stood there completely shocked. Someone screamed and someone started to cry. It was unreal.”
“The man lay on the floor until paramedics came to take him away after about 15 minutes.”
The witness complained that the nightclub didn’t immediately close after the incident.
“We went down to take our jackets because we just couldn’t stay. Then I saw that they had cleaned up. And then the night goes on as usual. It was sickening.”
“How can you not show more respect than that?”
Yaki-Da's CEO Christopher Palmqvist said they received the news of death at 2am.
“In hindsight, I agree that we should have closed,” he wrote in an e-mail to Aftonbladet.
According to the CEO, his team will now review the safety of the premises.
“We are responsible for ensuring that the equipment, handrails and so on meets the standards and requirements. Our security personnel have first-aid training and know how to act in an accident. That an incident like this does occur is incredibly tragic,” Palmqvist said in his e-mail.
Police have confirmed that they do not suspect foul play.
The deceased man’s relatives have been informed.
