Neil Murphy, 43, had checked into the all-inclusive Mare Nostrum in Playa Da En Bossa on the party island on August 12th.

After spending his first day on a sunlounger by the pool he was discovered dead the next morning by fellow holidaymakers, an inquest in Birmingham heard on Monday.

Coroner Louise Hunt ruled that he had died of heatstroke.

“It is clear from evidence available to me that Neil Murphy was found dead lying on a sun bed at the hotel Mare Nostrum on August 13. I am going to record that he died from heatstroke,”she said.

Murphy had flown out to Ibiza for a holiday on his own telling friends he was looking forward to a week of sun and clubbing at the island’s famous Space nightclub.

“Sun and Space!!! A nice week away in Ibiza. Roll on August 12th. It’s going to be fun… first time away for a few years and can’t wait for it. Been before on my own and it’s always good,” he wrote on his Facebook page according to The Birmingham Mail.

Last August saw record temperatures in Ibiza as well as across Spain, with the temperatures reaching above 34 Celcius on the island.
