German police drive over and kill pedestrian

Police in Nuremberg drove over a pedestrian on early Thursday morning, claiming they didn’t see him. The man died at the scene.

Police say the 58-year.old man was lying down on the street for as yet unclear reasons, and the officer driving the police car did not see him.

The police car was driving from Zirndorf to the centre of town when the incident happened at around 2 in the morning, reports the Nürenberger Zeitung.

Officers attempted to provide first aid medical care to the man and an ambulance turned up at the scene shortly after, but the man died of his injuries at the scene of the incident.

City prosecutors ordered that a specialist examine the scene in order to analyse the circumstances of the death. The police car was also taken away and subjected to inspection.

Police are also searching for witnesses to the incident.
