Not-so-wild boar finds home in herd of cows

“He's fully integrated,” doctor and farmer Dirk Reese told Süddeutsche Zeitung. “It's fascinating.”

In September, Reese began moving his herd of cows from the pasture back into their farmyard home in Mörel.

But he was surprised to find he had a new charge: a wild boar.

The persistent little pig came along with the herd like he belonged there – and now lives with eight cows and a new name, “Banana.”

But this isn't the first time a brave German piglet has made his home in a herd of cows.

In early October, Johann the pig made headlines when he was found snuggled up with a herd in Göttingen, Lower Saxony.

And back in 2010, a young female pig named “Friederike” joined a herd of Galloway cows in Göttingen.

It's assumed that Friederike, Johann and Banana all sought out new herds after being orphaned or separated from their familes.

It's not certain what will happen to Banana, Reese told SZ. He may have to be re-homed in a game reserve.

But Banana shouldn't have to worry about hunters: now a local celebrity, the little pig has “special status,” Reese said.
