The strike will affect services operated by Trenitalia, Italo NTV and Trenord, with trains being suspended from 9pm on Saturday for 24 hours, Blastingnews reported.
A list of guaranteed services running at peak hours can be found on the Trenitalia website and will be updated in the coming days.
The strike will create a difficult weekend for anyone travelling by rail but was announced by Italian state railway unions USB, CUB and CAT to address a series of grievances.
Rail workers are protesting against changes to working hours, planned increases to the retirement age and possible privatization of the national rail service by Matteo Renzi's government.
Disruptions are expected to continue in November, with further action is planned in the country's northern regions.
Trenord will stop trains across Lombardy on November 6th for eight hours, while Trenitalia staff will strike across Piedmont on November 12th and 13th.
