The Swede hit the front after 80km and, on the 10km park and urban course in Winschoten, steadily ran away from the field, finishing a remarkable 13 minutes ahead of the Spanish runner, Asier Cuevas.

Buud’s time of 6.22.44 smashed his own Swedish and Nordic record by more than six minutes.
