The party revealed in a press statement that on Sunday night, it had received a  “specific death threat aimed at the organisation and everyone involved in it”.

After they passed the email to local police and the Police Intelligence Service (PST), the offender was tracked down and arrested.

Police prosecutor Marianne Berg told Norwegian state broadcaster NRK that the arrested suspect was a youth under the age of 18, and hat he had been charged under Section 227 of the penal code.

“Police take threats against politicians and members of political parties seriously,” she said.

In its statement, the party interpreted the threat as a political act.

“Women are constantly threatened into silence in the Norwegian public sphere,” it wrote. “We will neither endure nor tolerate these threats. They are also a threat against democracy, whether they are directed at politicians or against private individuals.”

Feminist Initiative, which won 3.1 percent of the vote in Sweden’s general election last year, launched in Norway in March and is contesting the Norwegian county and municipal elections on 14 September.
