“We noticed the break-in at ten to one on Monday night.” Ulf Bertil Wiseth, operations manager at Nord-Trøndelag police, told the local Levanger Avisa newspaper. ”The thief triggered the church bells and the alarm and made off with the remote control and a small amount of cash”
The church bells at St. Eystein Catholic church in Levanger are operated by a remote control, and the employees at the church eventually managed to switch them off manually. But without the lost remote, the church will be unable to ring the bells to call worshippers to services.
”It’s not so much about the money that is gone, but that they took the remote for the church bells,” Piotr Ostafinof, the local pastor, told the paper. “They run on electricity and we cannot ring them without getting the remote back.”
Nord-Trøndelag police are calling for tip-offs from anyone in the area with information which could lead them to the perpetrator.
