Spain’s Eurovision entry, Edurne, sparked controversy earlier this week by agreeing that Manchester was "uglier than the back of a fridge".
The comment provoked anger among Mancunians, with the Manchester Evening News even running an editorial rebuking the pop star’s claims and taking aim at Madrid, calling the Spanish capital "miserable".
So The Local felt it was our duty to once and for all decide which city was the best. We have taken some of the most important criteria into account such as food, famous actresses and football teams.
From the hallowed ground of Old Trafford to the cobbles of Coronation Street, Manchester definitely has a lot to offer but can it compare to the blazing heat, beautiful parks and bustling boulevards of Madrid?
