According to a statement by the state prosecutor's office, the 16-year old had been walking on Friday with the 24-year old suspect, who is thought to be a friend of hers.
The two allegedly got into an argument and the 24-year old stabbed the teenage girl to death. The suspect then hid her body in the bushes.
He later returned to the scene on Saturday and set her body alight. A passerby reportedly found the body, still burning, later that evening.
The prosecutor's office said police apprehended the suspect on Sunday after an investigation and he confessed to the murder and burning the body.
The man was scheduled to go before a judge in the Trier district court on Monday.
