“When I took off the plastic wrap covering the side of the chard, I noticed there wasn’t only vegetables,” Fabienne Graber told the 20 Minuten newspaper according to a report published on Thursday.

“A tiny creature walked on the table — no bigger than a finger,” said the resident of Oftringen.

Robert Zingg, a reptile expert at the Zurich, informed the newspaper that the reptile was a wall gecko found in the mediterranean basin area.

The nocturnal reptiles are nocturnal and are often found around small rock walls and cliffs.

Reto Wüthrich, spokesman for Migros, said the chard is grown in the Valencia region of Spain in a regions where there are lot of walls.

Wüthrich told 20 Minuten it is possible that the gecko was wrapped up with the vegetables before they were shipped to Switzerland.

But the spokesman said the case was a rare occurrence.

Meanwhile, Graber declared that she was going to keep “the little gecko”.

She told 20 Minuten she plans to keep him an old terrarium rescued from the basement.

The only hurdle now, she said, is to find a name for it.
