Wednesday will see the start of a cold front predicted to be the worst to hit Spain for three years. Snow, strong winds and rain are expected to batter the country.

The bad weather is expected to last until at least next Tuesday and will affect all of the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands.

The state meteorological agency (AEMET) has issued adverse weather warnings for all regions except Ceuta and the Canary Islands.

Today is expected to see the start of the coldest weather since February 2012 when thermometers recorded the lowest temperatures since 1975.

The Barcelona area is expected to get a snowfall and mountain regions in the north of Spain could see the mercury drop to below -10 degrees C.
