Drones have been used to give viewers a taste of ‘peripheral tourism’ in a move the city council hopes will encourage the decentralization of architectural, historical and artistic attractions and will attract more tourists to the area of Nou Barris.
Located to the north-east of the city, it is one of Barcelona's ten districts and "the gateway to Barcelona" according to the council, quoted in Barcelona daily, La Vanguardia.
The area was predominantly rural until the mid-20th century when it was developed due to the arrival of numerous immigrants looking for work in the 1950s and 1960s.
Today the multicultural area is home to around 168,000 people.
While not the most touristy area of the city, the barrio boasts some little-known gems such as the air raid shelter in Can Peguera, which has incredible views over the city.
The area is also home to Torre Baró castle, which has been recently restored and features prominently in the drone video and the imposing Ciutat Meridiana aqueduct.
