Afghan boy, 13, killed by train near Copenhagen

A 13-year-old Afghan boy and his 15-year-old friend were struck by a train near the bridge Sjællandsbroen, which connects Copenhagen and the Amager district, on Wednesday morning. 

 

The 13-year-old was killed while the 15-year-old was hospitalized.

According to Ritzau, the two boys wanted to take a train to Norway, where one of them has family members. When a train attendant discovered that they did not have tickets, they were forced off the train at either Copenhagen Central Station or Dybbølsbro Station. The boys then proceeded to walk along the train tracks until the fatal accident occurred. 

 

The 15-year-old has now reportedly officially submitted an asylum request to remain in Denmark. 

 

Wednesday’s accident halted all rail traffic between Copenhagen Central Station and Malmö, Sweden – including all stops at Copenhagen Airport – for around two hours on Wednesday.
