Mjøndalen won the game 3-0 and kept their place in Norwegian soccer's premier league for next season. Brann football fans reacted to their side's loss and subsequent relegation, jostling the rival fans in the stadium and throwing flares onto the pitch.
Brann supporters came to Mjøndalen with hopes of winning the match and avoding relegation, following a 1-1 draw in Bergen last week. Instead they had to suffer a heavy defeat at the hands of their promotion rivals.
Denmark's Sanel Kapidzic scored his second goal of the game and the third for Mjøndalen to give the home team an unassailable 3-0 lead by the middle of the second half. It was then trouble erupted among Brann fans.
A number of flares were thrown onto the field, causing a lot of smoke close to rival supporters, and the match had to be stopped The police were quickly on the scene in number to prevent trouble and calm down both sets of fans.
Flares were again thrown after the match was re-started.
Mjøndalen won the two-leg tie 4-1 overall.
