The ruling was announced today afer the Malaysian sportsman flew into Oslo last week to do a secondary dope test. Chong-wei failed tests in Denmark during the World Championship in August this year.
The exclusion from the sport is said to be temporary, reported NTB. The ban excludes the player from participating in any professional competitions. However it remains a blow for the badminton champion who won silver in Denmark this summer.
Chong-wei was ordered by the sport's authorities to come to Norway and be tested again. He underwent controlled tests at a laboratory in Oslo last week.
The Badminton World Federation announced they will set a hearing to uncover more information about the positive dope test result, and to evaluate whether Chong-wei broke the sport's regulations or not.
Chong-wei denies attempting to cheat the sport by the use of banned substances.
Chong-wei has struggled with thigh damage over recent years. In July, the badminton player went through stem cell treatment. Malaysian sports officials investigated the possibility Lee got the banned substance dexamethasone in his body via medical treatment, and thereby took it unintentionally.
