The incident happened during the night in South Norway, and local police have launched an investigation to catch the culprits.
Follo police said on Twitter: “There has been a burglary at a horse riding centre. Horse riding equipment was stolen. Five horses also got their tails cut off.”
The burglary was discovered at 7am on Thursday morning. Half an hour later, staff at the riding centre noticed five of the privately owned horses had their tails cut off, VG reports.
Centre staff worker Hans Marius Schie told the newspaper: “It is an assault and animal abuse. We cannot understand how anyone could do something like this. It almost seems like someone wants to strike at us. We just don't understand how another human being can make themselves do anything like it. It is pure devilry.”
Schie estimates that the stolen items are worth almost 100,000 kroner ($15,500).
Police have examined the site and launched an investigation into the crime. They ask anyone with information on the case to contact them.
