Aquarium workers had their suspicions that a female dolphin called Mancha may be expecting after she lost her appetite and her body temperature dropped in the days leading up to the event.
In the early hours of last Friday, their predictions came true as she gave birth to a beautiful baby boy: 10 kilos in weight and 90 cm in length (35 inches).
The unnamed dolphin joins two other young ones born at Madrid Zoo Aquarium in the last three months: Ringo and Lennon, as online voters chose to call them.
“The young one’s first month of life is crucial as it has to receive a high amount of fats and proteins through breast milk in order to be strong and healthy,” sea mammal expert Carlos de las Parras told online daily Madrid Diario.
After the 30-day safety window has passed, carers will get down to deciding what name to give the mini male dolphin with the help of online voters.
