Leading theatre “Den Nationale Scene” (“The National Scene”) in Bergen has signed Bill Pullman to play Othello in an upcoming production set for the stage early 2015.

Pullman – a star of movies such as “While You Were Sleeping” (1995) and “Independence Day” (1996) – will play to Norwegian theatre audience from February next year.

Theatre chief, Agnete H. Haaland, confirmed Pullman will take lead role in the Shakespeare play, directed by Norwegian Stein Winge.

The American actor will finish his commitments for cinema, starring in the movie “The Equalizer”, with Denzel Washington and playing the lead detective.

Pullman will begin rehearsals with “Den National Scene” in December. He will live in Bergen until spring next year.

The 60-year-old actor will receive the same wage as Norwegian theatre actors, but has said he looks forward to the role and the challenge.

Stein Winge's "Othello" will be true to the original script, but the play's setting will be the modern day. Pullman will perform in English, while the rest of the actors speak Norwegian.

In a recent interview this year with Heraldandnews.com, Bill Pullman said about his career: “I have been lucky to get offered a bunch of things that are adventurous. I’ve been mixing it up with film projects and theatre projects. This is the year where I want to do a bunch of theatre.”
