Airline to blame for woman’s airport poo fall

Austria’s Supreme Court has ruled that a 69-year-old woman who slipped on some excrement in Vienna Airport’s terminal building, and broke a bone, cannot sue the airport - instead it said that the airline she was flying with was responsible and should compensate her.

The woman had wanted to sue the airport for the serious consequences of her fall – but the court ruled that the airline should be responsible for making sure that passengers could reach their flight gate safely.

However, the airline claims that it made safe walking areas available for passengers, whilst the terminal was being cleaned.

The court ruled that the airline is responsible for its passengers’ safety at check-in, luggage drop-off and security checks, and any areas which passengers have to walk through in order to reach their flight.

The airport’s authorized cleaning company is considered an agent of the airline.
