Danish man takes taxi from Odense to Rome

With its rich history, Rome is high on many people’s to-see list. But for one Danish man, the urge to see the Italian capital was so strong that he hopped in an Odense cab one night and had the driver take him straight there. 

 

The taxi driver, Martin Langstred, told Metroxpress newspaper that on a shift earlier this year, a customer got in his car shortly after 1am on a Wednesday and asked to be taken to Rome.

 

“At first I thought he wanted driven to the airport – but no, he wanted to take a taxi all the way there,” Langstred said. 

 

Langstred doesn’t remember his passenger’s name but he clearly remembers the strange request and has the receipt totally 29,226 kroner ($5,250) to prove it.

 

“There was this church that he wanted to see in Rome. It was a dream of his,” Langstred said. 

 

The journey to Rome took three days as the Danish taxi made its way through Germany, Austria and Italy. 

 

Langsted said he didn’t sleep during the journey but celebrated the arrival with an Italian sandwich and one overnight stay in Italy.

 

“After that I went home and took the next three to four days off. I earned almost a month’s salary on the trip,” he told Metroxpress.
