Robber held after Rome parliament heist

Wearing a balaclava and armed with a knife, the man allegedly managed to bypass strict security and break into a unit of Banco di Napoli in Palazzo San Macuto, pictured below, houses the parliamentary commissions of inquiry, Il Messaggero reported.

The 38-year old reportedly forced a cashier to hand over €15,000 before fleeing out of a secondary exit. He was later detained at a post office in Montesacro after depositing some of the cash.

The man, married with two children, had reportedly already transferred €4,000 into his wife’s account. He reportedly has "serious economic problems."

ANSA reported that the man was on the first day’s holiday from his job with a food services contractor used by the parliamentary commissions of inquiry.
