The jogger, named as Nunzia, was in Rome’s Marcigliana Park yesterday morning when she was attacked.

“While I was running three dogs sprung out, one of which was really big, angry, and attacked me,” she was quoted in Il Messaggero as saying.

Nunzia tried to run away but was overwhelmed by the dogs and fell to the ground. “They mauled me everywhere, my legs and arms. No one came past and I didn’t have the strength to get up again,” the 43-year-old said.

She was eventually found by Alessandro Rosati, who said he was cycling past: “It was 7.30am, the woman had been there for half an hour at the mercy of the dogs…her body was covered in injuries.”

He was able to chase the animals away and phone the emergency services, who took Nunzia to Rome’s Sant’Andrea hospital.

The dogs’ aggression is thought to be linked to their either stumbling across a boar carcass, or having killed the wild animal. They have since been found and taken to a kennel, Il Messaggero said.
