The states were obliged to take in at least 88 percent of their allotted quotas. However, that goal was still far off. This was according to new figures announced by the Interior Ministry on Monday.
Vienna exceeded its quota, reaching 139.3 percent on Monday. Lower Austria also exceeded its quota with 101.7 percent. Burgenland and Carinthia reached around 88 percent, and five states did not even get that far.
In total, there are according to the current figures 24.331 asylum seekers in state primary care, who are financed by the country and the states at a 60:40 ratio.
However, the states are responsible for accommodation. Each state has a certain quota, depending on the number of its inhabitants.
There are currently around 1.362 asylum seekers living in the Lower Austrian town of Traiskirchen, which was originally only supposed to hold around 440. In some of the most difficult phases, it had up to 1,500 inhabitants.
In the main reception centre in Thalham, Upper Austria, there are 157 refugees at present.
