The man, reported to be born in 1994, has been arrested on suspicion of murder, according to a report on the Örebro police website.

The apartment where the dead teenager was found has been examined by police forensics and a police investigation has been launched into the case.

"The next thing to happen is an interrogation of the suspect within an hour or so," said Richard Hiller, duty officer at Örebro police, on Saturday morning.

Hiller declined to divulge any details of whether the suspect and the victim knew each other or the cause of death.

Police were called to the apartment in the early hours of Saturday morning. The police have announced that they are interested in coming into contact with the 5-8 people which they believe were in the apartment at 2.30am.

"They are not suspected of anything, but they may have information about the incident," said Richard Hiller.

Relatives of the dead girl, who is reported to have been born in 1996, have been notified.

The incident is the second case of suspected murder in the vicinity of Örebro this week. A woman and two men were arrested on Wednesday after another woman was found dead outside of the prison town Kumla.
