Monday was a bank holiday across Germany, and while some people in Bavaria celebrated in traditional costumes, one town had to call off their annual bonfire – two young girls found live ammunition hidden within the wood.

Germany's police force took the delivery of a brand new, €900,000 water cannon. It's supposed to be used in heavy riot situations, but officers managed to do considerable damage whilst testing it with eggs and tennis balls.

In Munich plans for a new hotel raised eyebrows.

Meanwhile in the sporting world, Formula One boss Ecclestone went on trial, and Bayern Munich and Real Madrid played in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals. Sadly for Bayern fans, their team lost 0-1.
