Left-wing extremist dubs police ’embarrassing’

A 35-year-old left-wing extremist suspected of stabbing a person in the back during a neo-Nazi attack in Stockholm suburb Kärrtorp in December remained mostly silent during police questioning, before dubbing the charge against him "totally odd".

"This entire thing is like totally embarrassing, that you are turning offenders into victims," he told the police during questioning, after remaining silent and refusing to answer most questions.

He was set to face his first day in Södertörn District Court on Tuesday.

The prosecutor has charged him with conspiring to incite rioting after he sent out a text message and asked friends to assemble. The suspect had reacted previously to the police using the term "group leader" to describe his role in the altercation during a peaceful demo that went awry when a band of neo-Nazis showed up.

"Are you taking Nazi terminology and using it here? That sounds totally odd," he told the police.

The 35-year-old is considered part of the inner core of left-wing extremist organization the Revolutionary Front. He has previous convictions, for, among other charges, violent rioting and assault.

At Södertörn, he has been charged with rioting and breaking knife laws, and may be charged with attempted manslaughter, news agency TT noted.
