German archaeologists' dreams came true this week after recovering a find of over a million euros worth of Roman gold and silver jewellery from an amateur treasure hunter who dug it up illegally in a forest.

Deutsche Bahn welcomed a new arrival – the long-awaited ICE 3 high speed train graces certain stretches of track. Elsewhere in the world of travel, Frankfurt airport was rendered out of action on Friday due to strikes.

Over in Kiev, a German pastor has been holding council in the Maidan square – offering support to those in the middle of the action. Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier was also in the city for talks.

Closer to home, MP Sebastian Edathy found himself in the middle of a scandal after he was accused of having inappropriate images of naked children on his computer.

Scandal also hit the sport world after Olympic officials annouced they suspected biathalete Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle of doping at Sochi.
