A British man and his Norwegian partner have been charged with the brutal murder of the woman’s one-year-old daughter.

The woman, 28, from the Oslo area, and the man, 35, allegedly submerged the girl in a bucket of water to ‘discipline’ her. According to the indictment the pair submitted the girl to half a year of gross abuse, TV2 reports.

“This finally went too far, and she died as a result,” Oslo District Attorney Cecilie Schlosser Mills told TV2.

The indictment stated that the girl was lowered twice into the water bucket on 3rd October 2010, as a result of which she lost consciousness. She was taken to hospital but died the same evening, aged one year and ten months.

The couple are also accused of forcing the girl to eat chilli powder, showering her in cold water and forcing her to stand ‘in the naughty corner’ for several hours with her legs bound.

The mother’s lawyer, Geir Hovland, said she denied premeditated murder. He said the evidence did not support the charge.

“But she accepts culpability for assaulting her daughter. She wants to go through the legal process and get on with her life,” he said.

According to the indictment the British man would give instructions to the mother on what to do with her daughter via video chat from London. He was extradited to Norway in December 2012 and has been in custody since then. He denies charges of assault and murder.
