In 2013, it was all about the 'economy stupid' in Spain, and 2014 looks set to be no different with Spaniards eager to see whether this is the year when Spain turns the corner.
But while unemployment and economic growth will continue — deservedly — to take centre stage, other key issues look set to shape the next 12 months.
Will Catalonia hold a referendum on self-rule in November as promised? How will Spaniards react if a tough new abortion law is passed? And will Spain will the world cup in Brazil?
