"It was a robbery against a valuable goods truck outside Citygross in the Kungens Kurva neighbourhood," Stockholm police spokesman Sven-Erik Olsson told the TT news agency. The robbery took place around noon in the busy shopping district south of Stockholm, which among other thing houses the world's largest Ikea and the Heron City entertainment complex.

Within two hours, the Swedish special operations team targeted an address in the Segeltorp suburb of Stockholm. The Aftonbladet newspaper reported on Monday that three people had been arrested.

Police said the security guard was injured but still conscious as he was taken to hospital. They have now opened an investigation into aggravated robbery and attempted murder. A spokesman for the victim's employer, Peter Lindahl, said that gun shots were uncommon in the business.

"It is not unusual that robbers threaten (the guards) with some kind of shot gun, but that they go on to use it is very unusual," Lindahl told TT. "I can't recall that it has ever happened at our company."

Police found the case containing valuables from the robbery nearby the get-away vehicle.
