Fake guard robs €60k from Rome’s H&M store

He entered the megastore on the bustling Via del Corso, Rome’s main shopping street, shortly before opening on Monday morning and told the assistant he was authorized to withdraw the shop’s daily takings from the safe, Il Messaggero reported.

But after being led to the safe, she soon realized he was not on the list of authorized people. He then pulled out a gun and forced the assistant to hand over €60,000.

H&M’s new flagship store only opened in late October after the low-cost clothing chain took over the former site of Benetton.

The store was bought earlier this year for an estimated €180 million. More than 1,000 people attended the grand opening.
