‘Brainwashed’ Catalan kids shock Spain

A kids' news programme which featured interviews with Catalan children who supported last week's human chain for independence has been highly criticized by Spanish politicians for its "shameful" exploitation of minors for political ends.

Catalan TV station TV3's Info K show followed children and teenagers on last Wednesday’s human chain for independence in Catalonia.

In the programme, young Catalans expressed their favourable views on independence and explained why they didn't want to be Spanish any longer.

"If we the Catalans want it," said one child, "Spain will have to surrender and give us independence."

Spain's main political parties PP, PSOE and UPyD have surprisingly joined forces to publicly denounce TV3's choice of content and express their concern for "getting children embroiled in these kinds of controversies".

Popular Party leader in Catalonia Alicia Sánchez-Camacho has called for TV3’s president Eugeni Sallent to resign and on Wednesday the party's eurodeputy Santiago Fisas also brought up the controversy in the European parliament.

A spokesperson for the ruling party in Catalonia Covergence and Union said the report had "educational value" and regretted the "unjust" reactions by the Spanish press to the kids' TV show.
