Norwegian men train as nursery teachers

A record number of Norwegian men are training to be nursery teachers, showing a nation-wide campaign to lure them into the profession is working.

Mette Tollefsrud, head of nursery daycare at the Olso and Akerhus University of Applied Sciences (HiOA), said that 22.6 percent of this year's intake were men.  
 
"We have never been above 20 percent before, so this is a significant increase. There are ten to eleven boys in each class," she said. 
 
Celebrities in Norway have in recent years been hired to promote kindergarten teaching as a profession for men, as part as the government's push to increase the proportion of men in the profession above 20 percent.
