The preliminary police report concluded that the driver used the foot brake too much, instead of releasing the throttle and engine braking, according to reports in the Turkish media.
“The brakes were overheated and were out of service,” said Magdalena Öhrn at travel operator Ving to the Expressen daily.
The Swedes were heading back to their hotels in Alanya after an outing with the Ving to the Taurus Mountains when the accident occurred late in the afternoon on June 28th.
Images from surveillance cameras show how the bus drove into an intersection at high speed and overturned coming to a rest on its side.
Of the 27 on board, 13 were Swedes. and the remainder were Danish and Norwegian. A 68-year-old Danish woman also died in the crash.
Several more people spent periods in hospital being treated for their injuries.
The driver has since been arrested but it remains unclear what offence he is suspected of.
The police report will now be translated into English.
