Known to many of his fans as “the voice of God”, Constantino Romero made a name for himself in a country where almost every foreign film that makes it onto the big screen is dubbed into Spanish.
His deep, resounding voice allowed him to dub Hollywood stars of the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, William Shatner, Roger Moore and James Earl Jones.
National broadcaster RTVE reported on Sunday that Clint Eastwood was deeply impressed by Romero’s dubbing of the Hollywood actor in Dirty Harry.
Although he was known mainly for his dubbing skills, Romero also worked as a TV and radio presenter as well as a theatre and movie actor.
“He was the best example of how you don’t have to be blond, six-foot-four and have blue eyes to be a good performer,” said TV presenter and friend José María Íñigo.
His 21,000 Twitter followers have also expressed their deepest sympathies for the dubbing legend’s passing and the Facebook group "I also think the voice of God is Constantino Romero's" has been flooded with similar comments.
