Trying to concentrate with background noise from phones, chatting co-workers, music, typing and machines can be difficult, but a study on Monday said it could even make you ill.
Up to five million employees in Germany are working in offices which are so noisy, they are leading to health complications, according to a study by the Association of German Occupational Physicians.

Especially affected are the seven million German workers in large, open offices, where noise can reach painful levels, said the association. Noisy workplaces can lead to concentration problems, headaches and migraines and even to stress-related total burn out.
The main source of noise in offices is a lack of consideration from co-workers, wrote Bild daily on Monday. The paper appealed to employees to turn notifications on their smartphones and computers to silent and to take lengthy consultations and discussions into conference rooms.
