In brief: Östers IF return to the Allsvenskan after being relegated in 2006. The club from Växjö enjoyed a brief spell as one of Sweden’s leading clubs in the 1970s, winning three titles between 1978-1981. In recent years they’ve fallen as far as the third tier, but with a new stadium and a return to the Allsvenskan, maybe things are turning around.
Expectations in 2013: Like any recently promoted team, the aim is survival. Having said that, they dominated the Superettan last season, and given that the gap in standards between the two divisions isn’t that far, they should be okay.
Players to watch: Pablo Piñones Arce was one of the Superettan’s best players last season, albeit playing foe Brommapojkarna. Denis Velić and Freddy Söderberg were also important, and the addition of Kenny Pavey brings some valuable Allsvenskan experience to the squad.
