The man was skiing in the Sillernbühl area around noon when for unknown reasons he left a blue-marked run geared for intermediate skiers while skiing on a right-hand curve, police said in a news release.

He then fell 30 metres down a slope.

Despite immediate resuscitation by an attendant, the man died on the spot, police said.

Police are continuing to investigate the exact causes of his death.

Investigators haven’t ruled out the possibility that he was struck in a collision by another skier or snowboarder.

Other possibilities could include heart failure or an accident caused by the skier himself.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to phone 033 227 61 11.
