The man, whose identity has yet to be confirmed, was skiing with a colleague at the Kleine Scheidegg area on ungroomed and unmarked slopes, Bern cantonal police said on Monday.
The pair skied down the steep off-piste slope at around 2pm on Saturday when the colleague lost sight of the victim, police said.
After waiting for his friend at the bottom of the run he contacted officials from the ski resort.
Rescue workers found the missing man in a ditch near the base of a chairlift tower, police said.
He was flown by an Air Glacier helicopter to a doctor but the man was already dead by the time he could be treated.
Bern cantonal police launched an investigation into the circumstances of the accident and the cause of the death.
