‘Skeleton lover’ ex has bone to pick with case

The ex-boyfriend of a Swedish woman accused of using skeletons for sexual acts has called the investigation a “miscarriage of justice” and told the police he will not help them.

The man, who was still registered at the woman’s childhood home, at first proved hard to find, until her father pointed the police in the right direction.

He is believed to be the woman’s former lover.

The man’s first response was to send a series of accusatory text messages to a senior police investigator.

One claims that the police lack a sense of civic duty (civilkurage) and are being led by the nose by the prosecutor’s office.

“If this goes to trial, I’ll personally make sure the prosecutor suffers a crushing defeat,” he also texted.

He also urged the police to form their own impression of the woman’s character.

The 37-year-old woman, who was arrested in September, was formally charged on Tuesday at the Gothenburg District Court for the crime of “violating the peace of the dead” (brott mot griftesfriden).

The prosecutor could not explain how the woman had managed to collect almost an entire skeleton, but explained that the human remains had been used in an “unethical” way.

The suspect, who has been nicknamed ‘Skeleton Woman’ by the Swedish press, says she collected the bones because she is interested in history.

The prosecutor believes she used the bones as sex toys, pointing to images found at her home. One shows a woman kissing a skull.

“I have never heard of a case like this and neither have my colleagues, so I dare to say that this kind of case is quite uncommon,” prosecutor Kristina Ehrenborg-Staffas told The Local earlier this week.
