MARRIAGE

MP tells migrants ‘Go home’ over noisy nuptials

A UMP deputy has criticized noisy public weddings involving convoys – particularly popular with certain immigrant groups – telling the people responsible for them to “go back home”.

UMP deputy for the Rhône, Philippe Meunier, has condemned wedding celebrations which take place in public areas, in particular convoys which block traffic.

“Here, we are in France!” said Meunier in a press release on Monday.

“If people don’t understand, I advise them to go back to the country of their ancestors where they can live in accordance of their traditions.

“Traditions which are not ours and which violate our laws.”

Meunier went on to explain there is an increasing number of these “noisy and expressive” wedding celebrations, which are dangerous for motorists.

He said he was alerted by the French riot squad and others who live in the area to disruptions in traffic during “marriages from the Turkish and Maghreb community”.
