Education Ministry Secretary Andrea Becker confirmed to the Saarbrücker Zeitung newspaper that a teacher at the Mandelbachtal Elementary School had repeatedly sent pupils on personal errands to the grocery store during school hours.
“Clearly, this is not allowed,” the state secretary announced, saying that the school had been ordered to put an immediate stop to children being sent on private errands.
The ministry became aware of the situation after the summer holidays, when angry parents complained that their children were being sent to do the teacher’s grocery shopping when they should have been in class.
“The ministry reacted as soon as it was informed,” Becker wrote in a statement, but she declined to provide further details.
